Climate Group has selected three powerful local projects in Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia to support under the Future Fund project this year. In a highly competitive field, these projects stood out for their long term impact and scalability - potentially helping governments across the network to learn from their example and increase their ambition.
The three successful projects will take place in:
- Acre, Brazil: Analytical diagnosis of the impact of floods on the socially vulnerable population of the State of Acre through an online platform. Data acquisition/survey to create a visualization platform (story maps). The survey of information and mapping of the indicators of the municipalities and/or affected areas will serve as support to create a guide for initiatives to be developed, such as relocation of families in states of extreme social vulnerability, prevention plans, evacuation plans in case of flood.
- Baja California Sur, Mexico: Build an infrastructure (worm farm) that allows the use of organic waste generated in the city of La Paz to prevent it from reaching the landfill and thus contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
- West Kalimantan, Indonesia: The involvement of Gen Y Z in reducing the environmental impact through “Gen Y Z Ways” on waste management, water resources management, energy conservation. Established a provincial regulation to enlarge the adoption of the Green School Program in 4 schools of the Province.
Launched in 2017, The Future Fund is a powerful source of climate funding, supporting subnational governments on their journey to reach net zero emissions by 2050, at the latest. Each year, eligible climate vulnerable regions are invited to apply for a grant to support their vital climate mitigation, adaptation and community empowerment efforts.
