Call for case studies on indigenous climate adaptive solutions in India

24 September 2024, 7:10 UTC 2 min read

India has diverse indigenous communities. Over time, these communities have used their rich knowledge and practices to design effective climate adaptive solutions to tackle the changing climate.

These solutions stem from a profound grasp over local ecosystems. Insights on regional climatic trends, soil composition, and water supplies form this traditional knowledge. In addition, these practices also support the preservation of cultural diversity, sustainable resource management, and biodiversity - all of which are essential to successfully adapt to environmental change.

To tap into this rich knowledge, as part of our Under2 Coalition, we’re calling for case studies that document the best practices of these communities.

What kind of case studies are we looking for?

We're looking for examples of an advocacy campaign, community-level initiative or an impactful project which documents indigenous climate adaptation. The case studies shouldn't exceed 1,500 words.

What should the case study cover?

Solutions-driven: The case study should be based on concrete and existing indigenous climate adaptive solutions, carried out by communities or civil society organisations or promoted by government authorities.

Visually appealing: Do share images or videos, as far as possible.

Highlight the role of stakeholders: The case study should bring out the role of different stakeholders such as local community representatives, government authorities, civil society organisations, academicians, and/or others involved.

Personal element: Highlight the people behind the initiative. Share their perspective or quote them in the case study. Include someone who’s directly involved in the project or an expert in the field.

Short and concise:  Limit the story within 1,200 - 1,500 words.

The submission deadline is 18 October 2024.

Submission process

The case studies should be submitted via this online form. Please note the guiding questions. They are meant to help you structure your case study and help ensure all relevant information is present.

How will the case studies be used?

A selection of case studies* will be presented at the India State Funder Roundtable to be held with government officials, funders, philanthropists, civil society organisations and representatives from communities next year.

Note: Apart from the textual case study, we also encourage organisations and individuals to submit any video footage and testimonials related to the case study at [email protected]. These videos will be curated and showcased at the India State Funder Roundtable to be held in Delhi next year.

In case of any queries, please write to [email protected]

*Selected submissions will be further co-developed into case studies in collaboration with Climate Group’s Governments and Policy team. These case studies highlight the scope and diversity of ongoing indigenous adaptive efforts to tackle climate change, but do not necessarily imply endorsement from Climate Group.
