Delhi is paving the path for electric mobility in India, with the goal to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improve air quality.
The government approved the Delhi Electric Vehicles (EV) Policy in 2020, a comprehensive subnational policy covering a wide array of vehicle types. This policy focuses on creating demand and rapidly increasing the adoption of electric vehicles.
Delhi’s timeline for zero emission vehicle rollout includes:
- 100% of all government vehicles must be electric by the end of 2021
- 25% of all new vehicle registrations must be electric by 2024
- 100% of two-wheeler corporate fleets must be electric by March 2025
To support the uptake of zero emission vehicles, Delhi is taking action to improve charging infrastructure and public transport as well as enhance ZEV incentives and provide training to EV drivers, mechanics and charging station staff. As a result of these actions, public health in Delhi will be improved and 4.82 million tons of CO2 will be saved.
Through its participation in the ZEV Community, Delhi has joined state, regional, city and national governments from around the world in exchanging best practice and experiences of accelerating the transition to clean transport.
