CO2 standards for heavy trucks
On 13th May 2024, the Council has formally adopted the Regulation on CO2 emission standards for HDVs, de facto concluding the legislative procedure that started in February 2023 with the publication of the proposal by the European Commission.
We were pleased to work with EV100+ members before and during the decision-making process advocating for ambitious CO2 emissions reduction targets and successfully pushing back the attempts to promote biofuels and efuels.

April 2024 - Call to MEPs to adopt the Regulation text
On 10th April, ahead of the plenary vote on the text of the Regulation agreed in trilogue, we sent an email to MEPs asking to adopt the text as it is and reject amendments aimed at lower ambition.
April 2024 - letter backed by 38 businesses to MEPs
On 3rd April, we sent a letter to MEPs supported by 38 companies and calling for the adoption of the Regulation on CO2 emission standards for HDVs as agreed in trilogue.
October/November 2023 - EV100+ statement to MEPs
In October and November 2023, ahead of the votes in the EP, EV100+ members sent a statement to MEPs.
June 2023 - Letter backed by 41 businesses calling for raised ambition on CO2 standards
On 26 June 2023, we sent a letter supported by 41 businesses calling for more ambitious CO2 standards in 2030 and a phase out date for polluting trucks.

February 2023 - Call to EU Commission to include a phase out date for ICE trucks
In February 2023, following the publication of the Commission’s proposal, despite it is a first step in the right direction, we criticized it for missing an ambitious phase out date of ICEs trucks. Read the full reaction here
CO2 standards for cars and vans
On 28th March 2023, the EU adopted an amendment to the EU light-duty vehicles CO2 standards. With this amendment, a 100% CO2 emission reduction target for all cars and vans newly registered from 2035 onwards was introduced. In addition, the current CO2 reduction target for 2030 was strengthened to a drop of 55% for cars and 50% for vans compared to a 2021 baseline.
We worked with EV100 businesses and partner organisations before the amendment was passed to encourage ambitious CO2 standards for cars and vans.

September 2024 – Declaration backed by 50 companies calling on EU not to re-open 2035 target for cars and vans
In September 2024, in partnership with Transport & Environment and the We Mean Business, we sent a declaration to EU decisionmakers calling on the EU not to re-open the 2035 zero-emission target for cars and vans. It was supported by CEOs and executives of 50 automotive, clean tech, transport and energy ecosystem companies.
March 2023 - Letter with businesses calling for swift adoption of CO2 car and van standards
In March 2023, alongside 46 other organisations, including EV100 businesses, automakers and NGOs, we wrote to President von der Layen expressing concern that Member States were reconsidering their support for the 2035 phase out date for petrol and diesel cars and vans.
June 2022 - Industry call on internal combustion engine phase-out
December 2021 - Call to maintain ambition in Fit for 55
On December 13th 2021, we wrote to various European Parliament Chairs, urging them to maintain and strengthen the ambition in the Fit for 55 package, which included robust CO2 standards for cars and vans.
Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR)
The Regulation on AFIR entered into force on 13 April 2024.
The European Commission published a Q&A to support Member States in the technical implementation of AFIR.
The aim of AFIR is to make use and payment at charging points easier, even without an existing electricity purchase agreement.
The regulation applies to new charging points with immediate effect, while existing charging points with a capacity of 50 kW or more must be retrofitted by 2027. The requirement to install a card terminal only applies to newly installed DC charging points with a charging capacity of 50 kW or more.

March 2024 - Letter calling for ambitious targets for public charging deployment
Ahead of the final trilogue meeting in March, we sent a letter to policymakers calling for ambitious targets in the deployment of publicly accessible charging infrastructures for both light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles.
Corporate Fleet Mandate
In February, the European Commission launched a public consultation on Greening Corporate Fleets. Responses can be sent until 8th of July.

July 2024 - Position paper on greening corporate fleets
We published our position paper backed by 18 EV100 and EV100+ member businesses, welcoming the EU Commission's greening corporate fleets initiative, and set out that businesses want a corporate fleet mandate alongside enabling conditions to ensure the swift adoption of zero emission vehicles.
March 2024 - Conference organised on corporate fleet mandates in Brussels
On 8th March, we supported the Platform for Electromobility in organising a conference on this topic in Brussels. Speakers included representatives of the European Commission, IKEA, Uber, T&E, Leaseurope, Renault Group, BEUC and French MP Damien Adam.
October 2023 - Letter to President Maroš Šefčovič
In October 2023, we wrote to the new European Commission Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič welcoming him to the role and urging him to accelerate the electrification of fleets across the EU.
July 2023 - Letter alongside 7 EV100 members calling for a corporate fleet mandate
In July 2023, we restated, alongside seven EV100 members (An Post, AstraZeneca, Unilever, IKEA, Grundfos, Tesco and Vattenfall) the need for a corporate fleet mandate to promote the transition to zero emission vehicles ahead of 2035.
May 2023 - Letter to policymakers urging the acceleration of fleet electrification
Together with BEUC, the European Consumer Organisation, and the NGO Transport & Environment, we sent a letter to EU policymakers asking to accelerate the electrification of fleet trough the Greening Corporate Fleets Initiative.
