Following the release of initial drafts of the COP28 outcomes document, Climate Group CEO Helen Clarkson said:
"The planet can't afford yet another COP with vague outcomes. This is the time for decisive international action, with all Parties stepping up and showing the ambition we need for a cleaner, better future.
"With fossil fuels only mentioned a few times in the draft text for COP28 and no mention of oil and gas at all, this is far from a meaningful document. It won't get us any further forward than we are and it certainly won't help us to keep within 1.5C of warming.
"Together with my colleagues in the international community, I'm calling for tangible actions to tackle climate change and adapt to the conditions we're already seeing on the ground. We need a clear plan to end the fossil fuel era and invest in clean energy that doesn't harm the life chances of future generations. Tomorrow is too late. Now is the time and Dubai is the place. We have to act."
